Sports Day

Yesterday was Sumire's daycare Sports Day. Here are some shots of the fun. Thanks Auntie Lorraine for the cool outfit! She got an Anpan-man medal for her efforts. Yuki ran for the blue team!

The 15m dash was a bit puzzling for her - all the other kids were off and running but Sumire didn't seem in any rush at all. One of her teachers helped her finish though.

Here is a shirt that I saw at the sports day. Not a university I will be recommending to my students!

Silver Week

In Japan there is the Golden Week holiday in May - a time where almost everything shuts down (except retail) and people take off to spend some time with family (and hence clog up the highways with 50km traffic jams). Well, this year there was also a 5 day break in September that was given the name Silver Week (usually we have two long weekend in a row but for some reason this year 5 days off in a row - doesnt happen next year though).
We headed down to Yuki's parents place early Friday afternoon (managed to beat most of the traffic!) for three of the five days (had to get back for Yuki's work as she could only get the Monday off - beat traffic problems on the way home too!).
Here are some pictures of the cousins playing together and Sumire with family and friends. The long slide was a lot of fun - it is a roller slide and you get going pretty fast!
