It is Girl's Day on March 3 and in preparation for that families with girls put their doll decorations on display to celebrate the day (Ohina Matsuri). Rather than the usual display that we put out, this year we decided to make our own display using 'iron beads'. It took a while and there was some help along the way but Sumire did a great job. Enjoy the picture!

Things have changed in quiet Naruse
The quiet little neighborhood we used to live in while I was at Tamagawa has changed into media craziness over the past few days. In fact the target of attention is the very apartment/condo that we lived in for those 3 years!
It seems that back in January a girl in grade 5 was kidnapped while walking her dog. She was found last week held captive by the new 30 year old male resident of our old apartment. The girl has now been returned to her family, reportedly 'unharmed'.

I could provide my opinions about why these things happen but as this blog is more of a record for Sumire and not a collection of my thoughts about sides of Japan that few back home rarely hear about, I will just share the CNN link below with those who wish to read it and let you form your own opinions.
