Summer is hot and humid in Japan and as such many festivals are planned in the hottest periods as a way to come together and 'beat the heat'. One of the biggest festivals in our neighborhood involves carrying around portable shrines and everyone throwing water on you (including the fire department!). This year was the year where kids carry a mini shrine around and Sumire joined and carried around our neighborhood shrine. It was a great day of fun and hard work for all (glad my camera survived the wetness!). there must have been 50 neighborhood shrines there. The roads were all shut off and many people came out to watch. Enjoy the pictures (and videos).
